Q1. How and when did you start your Entrepreneur Journey to serve into Wedding industry? What did inspire you to start your own business?
I started my journey in singing as a passion along with my MNC job. I was motivated to take it full time after I won numerous awards in singing and got an amazing response to my live singing performance when I shifted to Bengaluru. In 2007 when I was confident that I am enough of a name in the live music industry of Bengaluru, I took the plunge and left my high paying MNC job and launched my music and entertainment company, Seasons. When I launched my Music business I realized that Live Singing was very unstructured and it was actually not a business. Coming from an MNC background and working in the best of the company's, I wanted to bring in a process and change the way client's approach musicians. I hope I have been able to succeed in some way.
Q2. Kindly describe more about your business, your role, products/services.
I am into the business of creating musical memories and bringing people together through the various genres of music that I perform. Our main goal is to deliver happiness to the client and his guests through our music. We have got various kinds of offerings based on the event requirements, budgets and crowd strength. Ranging from performance on minus tracks, three-piece intimate set to a full fledged 6-8 piece musician setup, we can work on various formats. If a client wants an element of interaction and game during music, we also have formats like Musical Funtakshari and Musical Tambola depending on occasions. We have been performing for Corporates, Weddings and Private Celebrations across the Country & Abroad. We also do theme based events like : Disco nights, Shaam-E-Ghazal, Retro to Metro.
Q3. Please share about the unique feature/specialty/USP of your Product/Service.
Every musician, though as similar as a singer, is still unique in his/her own ways. India is a land of multi-culture and multiple languages. I have a wish to perform in all the major languages of India though as of now I can entertain music lovers in 12 languages. I have also kept my genre versatile and keep my performance with songs of various styles and eras so that a mixed audience can enjoy.
Q4. How would you explain the importance of your role in a Wedding?
Nowadays, weddings are diverse with different cultures coming together. Hence, our entertainment revolves around the same concept & we try to take the playlist from our clients well in advance, understand the kind of people attending, the favorite songs of the family in the language they would want us to perform, thus creating life-long memories for the entire family & friends! Music binds families and friends.
Q5. What are the most common challenges you face at the wedding you are handling?
At times we have travelled long distances for our performances and have to get on the stage immediately. As a singer this can become a challenge. We love Challenges if it's well planned, but there could always be last minute song requests, maybe just a few days before the event itself and we put in our 100 percent to incorporate the clients requests.
Q6. How do you deal with these challenges?
To be able to give my best as a performer and handle all these challenges, I need to have great physical and mental health. I am regular for my walks, I never miss my badminton game and practice Yoga daily for an hour.
Q7. Could you share one of your most unique creations/experience for/of a wedding?
One of the most unique experiences we had was the concept of Qawwali & Ghazal theme. My team had done the complete attire and in sitting down format. After a couple of songs, there was some demand for newer peppy ones. We changed the entire atmosphere into a dance arena and everyone loved our combination and shift from one theme seamlessly to the other. The client was extremely delighted with our performance.
Q8. What type of collaborations would you like to explore in future?
I would like to collaborate with Artist Managers and Wedding planners across the country and abroad for wedding related performances like Sangeet, Reception etc. We can together create some amazing concepts for the clients and deliver beautiful memories.
Q9. What is your vision for the next five years?
I am yet to explore the musical scene abroad. I hope to be able to perform in at least 10 countries in the next 5 years where we have Indian music lovers. Being a multilingual performer, I am sure it would be a thrilling experience to perform in countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai where we have Indians from various parts of the country.
Q10. What would you advise new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in the business?
If you can leave your comfort zone and take risks, lose your sleep and be crazy about your goal, then be an Entrepreneur.
I often get calls from passionate and upcoming singers for advice. Some of them want to leave a job and get into full time music at a very early age. I narrate my story as an example. If the person is extremely talented, he/she definitely requires to create a good profile & start self promotions on social media. One has to have a lot of patience & determination as the market is highly competitive with multiple reality shows happening at the same time. I wish them all luck for their upcoming ventures.
