Q1. How did your Entrepreneur journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?
I started my firm Mint Leaf Designs in 2005. After working for several years and having designed my parent’s first home, I felt confident to accept offers that were coming my way.
Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.
Mint Leaf Designs is full service Interior Designing consultancy firm. We design and execute Residences, Offices, Commercial spaces, Wellness, Medical and Pharmaceutical spaces.
Q3. Please share about unique feature/USP of your Product/Service.
We have 3 unique features:
1. I have trained in architectural firms that designed medical, wellness, Pharma and commercial spaces, so I have seen these types of projects from designing stages. Not many designers have this background.
2. Due to my training, I am used to working with new consultants all the time on my projects. I can work with anyone, in any city and with local materials.
3. I have worked extensively in Mumbai. I am trained to work with challenging spaces, budgets and time frames.
Initially the adjustment of working in Mumbai was challenging as I had worked in United States, where the system was very different.
Q5. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?
Convincing clients of the costs and being very brutally open about it was the initial difficulty which over time and experience, I have learned to handle and has been one of my drawing power.
In my profession, we experiment with materials, finishes, design processes, ideas etc. everyday. There is no experiment period or time. Everyday I learn a new technique, work with a new consultant, etc.
Q7. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?
I definitely want to work PAN INDIA as my expertise is definitely required outside Mumbai. I am networking aggressively PAN India so that I can collaborate and work with city specific local consultants/contractors and local materials/vendors. This adds to my Value and its doesn’t make hiring me, a Mumbai designer, expensive for out of station projects.
Q8. How would you advise/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?
Get the necessary qualification. Work for at least 2 years before starting on your own. Have or find a mentor. Travel at every opportunity you get. Never give up and listen to your inner voice.
