Q1. How and when did you start your Entrepreneur Journey to serve into Wedding industry? What did inspire you to start your own business?

I hold a Postgraduate Degree in Business Administration with Human Resources as my specialisation. After 6 years of Corporate experience as a Corporate HR, I was blessed with motherhood that made me a stay-at-home mom. Although it was completely my choice to quit Corporate world and embrace motherhood, after a few months I started feeling a vacuum in life. You know when you have always been working, it is quite difficult to leave everything and stay at home. That’s when Yummylicious – by Monica was born.

You may find it strange, but I call my 10-year-old son the Founder of Yummylicious – by Monica; because had it not been for him, I would still be working for some Corporate company recruiting people. So, in a nutshell, my son is my inspiration behind starting my entrepreneurship journey – and if I may add, it has been quite eventful since then.

Q2. Kindly describe more about your business, your role, products/services.

I own a humble home setup where I make customised cake, cupcakes, cupcake Bouquets, cake-pops, cakesicles and Pinata Cakes. All my bakes are 100% egg free and made with high grade ingredients, safe for even toddles to consume. I do only make-to-order stuff and thus ensure freshness and quality. I also work in my home kitchen; as a result of which I guarantee safety and hygiene.

I am based at Goregaon, Mumbai and cater, primarily, to Western Suburbs of Mumbai. I call myself the Chief Operating Officer and Head- Marketing, since I single-handedly handle the baking and decorating part, and manage my social handles – not to forget address customer enquiries and queries.

Q3. Please share about unique feature/specialty/USP of your Product/Service.

The USP of my business is ME! Quite an unusual answer right, but you read it right. There are several people in the market who do what I do; but what makes my product different from theirs is ME, my creative touch, my passion and my love to serve the best product to my client.

Of course, finishing, quality and customer service are my other USPs.

Q4. How would you explain the importance of your role into a Wedding?

Weddings mark the beginning of a new phase of life, it’s a memorable life event, memories of which you will cherish for a lifetime. And any such event deserves to be celebrated and what is a celebration without CAKE!!!

Also, it is equally important to have a baker that not only understands your requirements precisely, but is also honest to his/her job and makes you feel confident about the cake.

Q5. What are the most common challenges you face at the wedding you are handling?

Well, the biggest challenge is to make the bride and the groom like the same design. Jokes apart, the challenging part is the structure of the cake and transportation of such big cakes.

Q6. How do you deal with these challenges?

I usually assemble the cakes at the venue. So what I do is, I make the separate tiers at home and then carry them separately at the venue. I also carry my basic cake decorating tools, inform the banquet manager well in advance about my requirements (if any), and always take someone along with me to the venue to help and assemble the final cake there.

Also, all my cakes, compulsorily, are transported in an AC car/ cab.

Q7. Could you share one of your most unique creation/experience for/of a wedding?

One of my most memorable cakes was an engagement cake. It was a huge 10 kgs cake and a chandelier cake – my first chandelier cake. So I was quite nervous about assembling it at the venue. The stand itself weighed about 15 kgs. So it was quite a mammoth task, doing that cake.

Q8. What type of collaborations would you like to explore in future?

I would love to collaborate with wedding planners and event planners.

Q9. What is your vision for the next five years?

Well, I call my vision 5-5-5 which means, I wish to multiply my current turnover by at least 5 times and also start a cake studio of my own employing at least 5 people in the next 5 years.

Q10. What would you advise new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in the business?

It’s a tough market out there, stick to your niche - don’t try to become a master of all. Don’t give up, there will be days when you will feel that it's not working, but keep faith and don’t stop making efforts.

Always save the positive feedback you receive from clients – these messages act as morale booster on days you feel low!
