Q1. How and when did you start your Entrepreneur Journey to serve into Wedding industry? What did inspire you to start your own business?

My entrepreneurial journey started around 2012 with no expectation that I will be joining my family business. I was persuading CA at that time. I cleared foundation and Inter group 1 but missed group 2 by 6 marks. I thought of taking a break of one year. During that time to fill my time, I joined our family business. I didn't know at that time this was my destiny. Slowly I started getting knowledge of my business and soon I became passionate about my family business and then there was no looking back.

Q2. Kindly describe more about your business, your role, products/services.

We have been into the Jewellery business since 1991 with the name HK Chains. We established our factory in 1991 of machine made chains. My role is more of a Product Management. Identifying the right product for the right customer is our forte. Every year, we introduce at least one product into our catalogue.

Q3. Please share about the unique feature/specialty/USP of your Product/Service.

Our USP is into Machine made Chains. We have more than 30 plus machine made chain designs. If a person doesn't find any particular machine made design in the market, their last resort is HK CHAINS where they are sure they will find their required order from us.

Q4. How would you explain the importance of your role in a Wedding?

First thing people look for when there is a wedding at their place is GOLD. Giving gold at the wedding is a traditional ritual which still is religiously followed.

Q5. What are the most common challenges you face at the wedding you are handling?

The most common challenge we are facing is that of taxation. Paperwork and maintenance of documents is increased. Every 6 months some new rules come up which becomes very difficult for a Sole Proprietor like me to follow up with it. When the system is kept simple then it becomes easier to maintain all the records and everything related to it.

Q6.How do you deal with these challenges?

We have to adapt according to the system. That's the only option.

Q7. Could you share one of your most unique creations/experience for/of a wedding?

One of my father's friends visited our shop who was looking for a necklace for her daughter's marriage. They came with her wife and one of their friends. We displayed our products. After seeing the products they were so confused what to select and what not to? They had came to buy one necklace but they ended buying 3 necklaces and a friend who came along with them also bought 2 necklaces and since then they have referred us to many of their relatives and that in some way gives so much happiness that our products are loved so much by our clients, this particular incident is just one such example.

Q8. What type of collaborations would you like to explore in future?

My ideal long time business collaborators are Semi Wholesalers and Retail Shop Owners. I am trying to expand my reach to other parts of Tamil Nadu where I can supply my products and services.

Q9. What is your vision for the next five years?

My vision is to identify and catch the pulse of what the current generation thinks of gold. What kind of design they prefer and accordingly I add products to my catalogue.

I would like to create the design according to the current generation and the next generation. Today's generation is going for much more delicate and fancy design and my focus is exactly on that. Yellow gold is what is generally preferred.  But I guess next generation prefers more of Rose Gold designs. They also like CZ patterns. That's what we have recently ventured into.

Q10. What would you advise new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in the business?

Passion, Patience & Persistence are the ingredients to be an Entrepreneur. My advice for new budding entrepreneurs is to just focus on the quality of your products. Quality is above everything. Don't go fast. Take small steps and be in touch with your customers on a regular basis. Just ask them what they think about your products? Any changes they would like to see.

Become part of a Networking Organization where you can find some strong business collaborators for your business. Such platforms also help in developing leadership skills in you.
